Enable a user to perform a wireless activation

1. In the BlackBerry Manager, in the left pane, click a server.

2. On the User List tab, click a user.

3. In the lower pane, expand Service Access.

4. Perform one of the following actions:

Deploying handhelds using the Desktop

Manager

You can deploy handhelds by connecting them to user computers that have the Desktop Manager

installed. You can distribute the BlackBerry Desktop Software version 4.0 to user computers to maintain

handhelds without administering them from the administration computer.

1. Configure the Desktop Software installation files to install the Desktop Manager component. See

"Configuring the BlackBerry Desktop Software installation files" on page 11 for more information.

2. Push the Desktop Software to user computers. See "Distribute Desktop Software to user computers"

on page 14 for more information.

3. Inform users to start the Desktop Manager and connect their handhelds to their computers.

Action Procedure

Generate the activation password and

send the activation password

automatically to the user in an email

message.

! Click Generate and Email Wireless Activation Password. The user receives

an email on their computer that provides the activation password.

Note: The expiration time is set to 48 hours by default.

Define the activation password and set

the password expiration time.

1. Click Set Activation Password.

2. Type a shared secret password.

3. Retype the password to confirm it.

4. From the Password Expires in drop-down list, select an expiration time.

5. Click OK.

6. Notify the user of the new password.

Note: The shared secret password is specific to a user account. The password expires after the specified expiration time (48

hours by default when generated automatically) or five unsuccessful password entry attempts on the handheld.
